The Cycle Effect 2019 Application
Volunteer form

The Cycle Effect believes that participation in sports is a powerful force to change lives. Countless studies show that youth participation in sports dramatically raises graduation rates and lowers the rates of childhood obesity, teen pregnancy, crime and other negatives in a young person’s life. Yet, too often many kids, especially girls, sit on the sidelines.

In 2018 we aim to work with over 125 young women in Eagle and Summit Counties in 5th through 12th grades. We offer up to 90 days of programming year-round to each girl, working with them at least two days a week after school. This includes providing all of the bikes, helmets, shoes and race entries.  We focus on nutritional guidance, fitness, mentorship, as well as helping them find jobs and providing community service projects.

Our athletes will learn to set measurable goals for training, racing, and team membership, as well as academic, personal and future career goals. The girls are instrumental in structuring their team and the 20 hours of volunteer service they are required to provide. TCE will assist our girls with securing internships and paid jobs while in high school.

As the girls enter their junior and senior years in high school, we will help them find the resources to navigate the college admissions, scholarship and application process. One hundred percent of the girls that have graduated from our program have gone to college, 75% being the first in their family. We want to make a larger impact in a smaller number of kids’ lives, and we believe that we are doing that.

The program meets year round on Mondays and Wednesdays. There is a small uniform and indoor training facilities cost along with an equipment deposit that is returned when all of the equipment is returned at the end of the season.

If you or a young woman you know is interested in applying to be in our program, please fill out an application. We currently have two teams practicing in both Eagle and Summit Counties.

If you are interested in dropping into practice or learning more, please contact Beth Markham in Eagle County at or Carla Johnson in Summit County at
