Why I support The Cycle Effect
As a member of the Eagle valley community, I have seen first-hand the impact our programming has on the girls who become empowered through learning the sport of mountain biking. In an increasingly digital and often social disconnected world, they are learning to be active, work together, encourage each other and be part of a team. The self-confidence they gain leads to higher expectations for themselves and their families. They learn to prioritize, set goals, and work hard to improve their futures. The fact that 100% of The Cycle Effect graduates have been accepted to college is phenomenal. But it goes deeper than that. I was the young girl who fought to play baseball with the boys and wanted to know why girls couldn’t pole vault in track and field. (They can now!). And I was that girl who realized a dream by working hard, studying, and being the first in my family to go to college. (Thank you Mom!)And I later became that woman who once entered a boardroom to find she was the only female at the table. (And I smiled!)It is important to me that young women do not limit themselves. That they strive and reach and try and explore. That every young girl in this valley has the opportunity to feel strong and capable. And that is why I support The Cycle Effect.
