2016 Summit County Summer Recap

IMG_0769I just sat down to my computer to post on Google Classroom “the plan” for today’s practice, as I have every Monday and Wednesday for the past seven months, when I realized, “Oh, yeah – we don’t HAVE practice today!” The 2016 Cycle Effect Team Summit season has drawn to a close, and although I am sad that I don’t get to see the girls today, I am happy to have a chance to reflect  on all of the GOOD  that transpired over the spring and summer months.

Season highlights include:

  • We introduced over 25 girls to mountain biking, with 10 girls tackling their first mountain bike race. Over the course of the season (March-September), the girls spent approximately 6 hours a week developing mountain bike skills, gaining fitness, and TEAM BUILDING!IMG_0945 (1)
  • We performed approximately 375 community service hours  with Keystone Science School,  Family Intercultural Resource Center (FIRC), SOS Outreach, Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, Physical Activity & Nutrition Team of Summit (PANTS), Nine Health Fair, Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department, and Maverick Sports Productions MTB Junior League.
  • We had a blast learning about the best nutrition practices for mountain biking (and LIFE!) on our Target shopping “field trip”
  • We got to share our love of mountain biking and the skills that we have learned with the girls of SOS Outreach and MTB Junior League.<img class="wp-image-5964 alignright" src="https://i1.wp.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?resize=300%2C225" alt="IMG_0679" srcset="https://i1.wp.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?w=3264 3264w, https://i1.wp.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https://i1.wp.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?resize=768%2C576 768w, https://i1.wp how to weight loss.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?resize=1024%2C768 1024w, https://i1.wp.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?w=1338 1338w, https://i1.wp.com/thecycleeffect.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_0679.jpg?w=2007 2007w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" data-recalc-dims="1" />
  • We successfully re-routed a trail and worked on creating a new, more sustainable trail at the One-Step Over trail project with the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District
  • We facilitated aid stations at Bike To Work Day and
at the Firecracker 50 MTB race
  • We found three new AMAZING volunteer coaches – welcome Liz Cunningham, Terrin Frey, and Claire DiCola!
  • Five TCE Summit team members went on to join the SHS Tigers  MTB team.

All in all, we enjoyed a full summer of practices and races. Every single team member not only
dt.common.streams.StreamServer greatly improved their mountain bike skills and made new friends, but were introduced to new trails and members of the community, and learned valuable life lessons. From a coaching  perspective, I could not be more thrilled with the tremendous amount of growth exhibited by our young women over the course of the summer, both on AND off the bike. I am already looking forward to the 2017 program, but in the meantime, I will be busy coaching and helping our girls balance school and mountain bike racing during the high school race season! Go Tigers and thanks for reading,

Jaime Brede
