Sponsor a Rider Program
Hello Everyone and welcome to a great new year in 2016! The team at The Cycle Effect is excited to implement a lot of great things and continue to make our programming better and more effective. I will be keeping this blog updated on a much more regular basis. I dare to say once a month! We like lofty goals at The Cycle Effect :)
I wanted to let you know about an amazing new way that you can directly help The Cycle Effect athletes.
Before we do that, let me tell you a little more about our program. In general, Non-profit organizations are often comparing and "competing" with each other on numbers like cost per kid, cost per hour, contact days, contact hours, etc. This is not a bad thing, as we ALL want to make sure that donors, sponsors, foundations, and other supporters feel like their money is being used wisely and making a difference. The Cycle Effect spends a lot of time thinking like this, too. We are often looking at numbers to see where we can do things better as it is essential to being able to continue our work in the community. The Cycle Effect's model is different than a lot of non-profits, though. This is neither a good nor a bad thing. It is simply different as one model can not help everyone. From the beginning, we have decided to work with a smaller group of participants in order to put more time, money and resources into each one. This hopefully leads to seeing a bigger, longer lasting impact on their lives. When we tell some people that our program costs $2200 per girl some think that we are crazy at how expensive it is. Many cyclists think that it is incredibly cheap. I wanted to share some numbers about our program so people can continue to understand how we help young people.
400
The amount of young people The Cycle Effect is aiming to help in 2016. We will still continue to put the majority of our time resources into helping our young women go to college, but we have expanded our reach to help younger kids. This will come in free skills clinics, introducing youth to cycling, speaking to kids about nutrition and goals, collaborating with other non-profits to get more young women into our sport and bike safety talks.
$138,000
The number of in-kind goods and services that The Cycle Effect works to receive each year to make our program more affordable.
$30,000
$30,000, of the $138,000 above, is the estimated cost of our volunteer coaches' time. All of our coaches are USA Cycling licensed and, for some, it is their profession outside of their volunteer work.
80
The days offered to each of our girls. Each girl is offered practice, training, racing, volunteer work, etc. 2+ times a week for up to 10 months. This also includes access to a college counselor, life and wellness coach, help in job placement, and mentoring.
$5,000
Similar programs would cost over $5000 for JUST the bike portion of this program. Coaching, race entry fees, uniforms, bike, shoes, travel expenses, maintenance, helmets, etc. are all covered by TCE.
$140
What our participants pay for our program.
90%
The estimated number of girls from the previous fall that come back in the new year. The main reasons given are because it is fun, hard work, and they do not feel judged.
100%
Our continued goal of how many of our program graduates attend college after high school.
Our goal is to be able to continue to provide our program for little to no cost to each deserving girl.
We hope that you will consider sponsoring a rider (or two!) this year so that we will be able to ensure we can serve all young women in our community who are interested in our program.
If you can’t support a rider, we hope you will still consider covering a portion of the cost.
Your support truly matters to the young woman in our community! If you would like to offer this opportunity to a young woman, please click here!
Thank you for your time,
Brett Donelson
